Carlsbad Caverns

The first part of our trip was to Carlsbad Caverns. The first night we went to watch the bats fly. Every evening at dusk thousands of bats leave the cave to go feed. They spiral out in a huge mass. Very cool. No pics though - they don't allow it. The next day we spent about 5 hours in the cave. We walked in the natural entrance and did the self-guided tour around the big room. Zachary and Benjamin weren't too sure aobut the whole thing. It's really dark and kind of creepy at first. But Jonathan loved it. We ate lunch and then did a guided tour. On the guided tour they turn out the lights. It gets very, very dark (can't see your hand in front of your face). But nobody feaked out. You have to take the elevator out of the cave and go from 56 degrees to over 100 degrees. We were freezing though and ready to be warmed up.

About to go into the caverns.

Not so sure about this cave thing!

After lunch, a little happier.

In the elevator room - a little warmer in here.

I'll post more of our vacation tomorrow.
