Yarn with a purpose

Here's some yarn.

Nice, pretty, soft yarn. But it's not really doing anyone any good. It has no purpose yet.

So I get out my needles, find a pattern (well, I actually sort of made up my own pattern which might have been part of the problem), cast on, and start knitting.

Nice. There might be a purpose for this yarn.

Now it's looking like a sweater. Very pretty.

But it doesn't fit right, the edges are curling too much, the one buttonhole didn't end up in the right place, and the sleeve isn't coming out right. I'm not happy with it. And I've got Christmas presents to knit. So I set it aside.

That almost finished sweater sat there for weeks and I just couldn't make myself finish it. I knew that if I did I wouldn't wear it. It would most likely just take up space on a shelf in my closet. Not much purpose in that.

So here's what I finally decided to do. I ripped it all out. Yeah, all of it.

Surely there was a better purpose for that beautiful yarn.

So I found a new pattern and started again.

Here's what it looks like now.

And it will soon be given to a family with a new baby. Now this yarn has a purpose, to keep a baby warm.

Sometimes I think my life is like that yarn. Looks pretty on the outside, but not really serving much of a purpose. I need to let God unravel me and make me into something he can use to serve his purpose.

You are amazing! Good for you. Those were some deep thoughts. Any baby I might "know"?
