Doing for others

I seem to be finding new ways to "do for others" this year. Mostly thanks to my friend Kristen. She's posting a monthly Do-it-for-Others project on her blog. It's a great way to get your kids doing for others. The first project was tied fleece blankets to be given to hospice.

I already had some fleece, so we were ready to go.

I'll be getting these in the mail to you soon Kristen.

Kristen also pointed me to the blog Craft Hope. Their first project of the year is red scarves for college bound foster teens. So I'm knitting a couple scarves for that too.

How do you "do for others"?

A reason to knit

This is Tyler. Tyler has Metachromatic Leukodystrophy. He's been through a lot in the last few months.

And this is Tyler's blanket knit by the loving hands of six ladies from the southwest United States. One of those pairs of hands belong to me. None of us has ever met in real life, but we were able to create something beautiful for a sick little boy.

This is one of the reasons I knit. To bring a little joy to others.

Knitting update

I worked on this blanket over the weekend. It's another Oddball Charity Baby Blanket. The name of this one is "Candy Corn". I added the last orange section. I knitted rows of little triangles - the shape of candy corn.

I'm slowly getting the sleeves done on my sweater. I'm about half done with the first sleeve. But I have lost my steam on this project - I'm bored with it. But I will persevere and get it done!

Next up is new slippers for Jon and Ben. They've outgrown the first ones I made. I've ordered yarn and will start on them when the yarn gets here. I still want to try to make a pair of gloves (with fingers this time). Maybe I'll get to that when I finish the sweater and slippers.

Knitting update

Yes, I'm still finding time to knit. I worked on another oddball charity blanket last week. This one is called "Strawberry Sundae". I did the brown pink and white stripes.

I started a new sweater a couple of weeks ago. It is a top-down raglan v-neck cardigan. This one will fit, because I can try it on as I go to make sure! It is slow going because I'm using a small needle, but it is looking really nice. I think I'm going to really like this one.
