Band

Jonathan and I played in our community band's concert in the park. It was fun playing outdoors and it was a much more laid back atmosphere. And the weather was almost perfect - just a bit of wind blowing our music around.

We start rehearsal for the next concert tonight. Zach will be joining us again. His church youth group meets the same night so he's been having to choose. The second half of the next concert will be big band music. Zach loves big band! That was enough to get him back!

Zachary's Concert

Zachary had his winter band concert this week. Here's the scrapbook page I did. Click on it for a closer look.

I'm having fun searching for and playing with new papers and elements. There's a whole digital scrapbooking world out there I never knew about.

Busy weekend

We had a busy weekend. I spent the day with Zachary and his band at the Pageant of Bands. I am having so much fun being a "band mom". The band did great at their very first ever competition.
All the bands march in and line up on the field for awards.
Here they are with their trophy.
Yes, that is their director in front on the ground!

Greg was soccer dad for the day and ended up have to referee both soccer games. And guess what? Both teams won - on the same day!!! Jonathan scored 3 goals! Benjamin didn't score any goals but had a great assist. Sadly, there are no pictures - because I wasn't there!

Then Sunday night I took Zachary on a "date". We went to Olive Garden for dinner and then went to see Oliver! - the national touring musical production. Great show!

Now, I'm a single mom for a few days. Greg left for OKC this morning for a manager's conference. He'll be back Friday evening. I think it's going to be a long week.

My exciting life

I've really got nothing exciting to blog about. My days pretty much all look the same: school, practicing, shuttling kids to band, church, and soccer practice. But I'll try to share a little of my boring life!

Zachary marched and played at another football game Friday night. He was supposed to have an extra practice Saturday morning, but the football team decided they needed the field worse than the band because they blew a big lead in the game (they still won!). Everyone knows football is more important than band so the band practice was canceled.

Jon and Ben had soccer games Saturday. Ben's team won. Jon's lost. That sounds familiar. Zachary refereed Ben's game and two more after that. I saw him talking to a GIRL in between quarters! A friend from band is also a referee.

We all went out for pizza Saturday night after the soccer games. Dion's has the best pizza anywhere (at least anywhere in New Mexico!)

Oh, this is kind of exciting - to me anyway. Zachary is doing so well in school they moved him to Honor's English and Algebra last week.

We are doing something kind of exciting tomorrow: McCall's Pumkin Patch field trip. Stay tuned for all the exciting details and pictures!

Exhausting Weekend

I had a fun weekend. It actually started Thursday afternoon. I attended a church women's conference. It was here in town but I stayed in a hotel with a few of my friends from church. I got to host the speaker for the event, Kim Bolton. (I was her driver and gofer!) It was a great conference and I had a lot of fun with my friends and away from the responsibilities of my every day life. Of course we stayed up way too late Thursday and Friday nights.

I left the conference early to be a band mom. I was a chaperon for the football game. I had so much fun. I am loving being involved with Zachary's band. The football team won again 42-22. So the band got lots of practice playing the fight song (which the director hates!). The band did a good job on their show, but they have a long way to go before their first competition in 2 weeks.

I missed Jon and Ben's soccer games, but Greg said they played great! Ben's team won, Jon's lost. I'm waiting for the day they both win on the same day.

I had a nice nap this afternoon and now it's back to the grind!

More from last weekend

So I'm finally getting around to updating my blog this week.

Here's what we did last weekend.

Go Hawks!
The football team won 40-21!

The band sounded great...

And looked awesome in their new uniforms!

Benjamin's soccer team got creamed 3-14. But Ben got to play a lot and had fun!

Check out that ref!

After a less than stellar record last year, Jonathan's team got off to a great start and won 2-0. Jonathan scored his first ever goal in a regular season game!

Hawk Band!

Here's some pics and video of Zach's band demo yesterday. This song will be part of their marching show. They only got the music a week and a half ago and haven't started learning the marching part yet. But I think they are off to a good start. Can't wait to see them again in a few weeks!

That's Zach right in the middle.

Love that flute/tuba duet!

Here they are lined up to march. Does that mountain look familiar Melody?

And marching. Don't know why they did it with their backs to us! Zach is the tall one in the white hat.

The conversation you hear was someone asking me if this brought back memories. It absolutely did! The other mom I was talking to had been in the military so it brought back basic training memories for her.

Ok, this took forever. Videos take a long time to load!

New Look, Stitch Markers, HS registration

So how do you like my new look? I love it. Thanks Shauna!

Melody - Stitch markers are little things you slide on your needle to mark your place, like the beginning of a round (if you are knitting in the round), or between large sections that repeat. As you are knitting, when you get to a marker it's a reminder of where you are or what you need to do. Here's a picture I found. Stitch markers are traditionally little plastic rings or loops of yarn, but now, because of all the creative people out there, they are like knitting jewelry! Now do you understand?

Zachary is now registered for high school and starts in one week! It is a brand new beautiful campus and all the teachers and volunteers we saw were friendly and helpful. I think Zachary is going to have a great year. The band is doing a marching demonstration for the parents this afternoon. It will be fun to see him in his new element.

Another Monday!

Only two weeks until school starts! Yikes! Where did the summer go? Zachary was off this morning to his 2nd week of summer band. He really loves it and is having a great time. I'm so glad. I think this will make the transition from homeschooling to high school easier. Speaking of homeschooling, I received my order of books for Jon and Ben last week. I've got to get everything organized and ready to go - maybe tomorrow! Now I'm off to fix lunch and then we're going swimming! Summer's not over yet!

Summer Band

Well, I guess he liked it, cause he went again today! Actually, he loved it and had a great time.

Big day for Zach

Zachary is at his first day of high school summer band! Although he wouldn't admit it to me, I think he was very excited. Hope he's having fun!

Band!!!

This has been a very nostalgic week for me. Monday night (our anniversary) we went with some friends to a Drum Corp show. Drum Corps are amazing marching bands with just horns and percussion. Check out my friend's blog post here to see pics and video. (I'm letting her do the work for me!) Now the reason this was nostalgic for me is I was in marching band in high school. And I loved every minute of it. I would be in a marching band again if they had one for old band nerds like me!

Then last night I took Zachary to the first meeting with his new high school band director. Yes, my first born is following in my foot steps-I'm so proud! He starts marching band camp next week. We both love the director. He's young (first job out of college for him) and full of energy and excitement - and he is a saxophone player (private lessons with the director - yahoo!). Zachary is going to a new high school and this is the first year they will have band, so it will be interesting to see how it all goes. I'll plan on being as involved as they will let me! Go Hawks!
